Small Donations, Big Impact: It Takes a Valley

Welcome to Pet Talk, an occasional column about homeless pets and related topics. Today we’re discussing the critical role of donors—large and small, personal to corporate—in helping to rescue local homeless pets. Just a few examples here: Flathead Shelter Friends often receives personal checks from pet lovers, mostly local, but also some from some far-off gracious folks. Donor checks, whether large or small, come in the mail either randomly or fairly regularly (such as with monthly contributions).

Conversely, a number of dedicated pet lovers have written bequests into their wills to assure support long after their passing!

And many contributions also come from small-to-large entities like Whitefish Community Foundation, Petco Love, PetSmart, and other organizations in the form of grants, supplies, and fund-raising events.

Here are just a few of the pets currently available for adoption at Flathead County Animal Shelter. To schedule a meet-and-greet appointment, call 406-752-1310.

And how are donations used? The list is quite long but below are some highlights: Over the years Flathead Shelter Friends has helped the county shelter and local adopters by funding numerous capital improvements, providing free food donations, helping with veterinary care and supplies, providing countless volunteer hours, and so on. (Which helps taxpayers indirectly by reducing county shelter budgets!)

If you’d like to help, please consider not only donating but also by spreading the word about adopting our needy homeless pets.

Looking for a loving companion? Schedule a meet-and-greet appointment with Flathead County Animal Shelter at (406) 752-1310 or visit their website for more information.

Do you know about the low adoption fees and other incentives at Flathead County Animal Shelter? Flathead Shelter Friends also offers a Senior Pet Voucher providing up to $350 toward veterinary care for adopted pets age 7 and older.

Pet Talk is proudly produced by Flathead Shelter Friends, Inc., an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting the animals of Flathead County Animal Shelter.
